Workout Update

Barbara on June 12th, 2008

Just thought I’d do a quick blog about my training etc.  My workouts have been really hard and most of the time you will see me walking around like a robot as it really hurts to move LOL.  I’ve been doing weights on a Mon/Tue & Thurs/Fri with 2 spin classes and 2 pilates classes.  I’d love to do more but it’s just too cold to get up early in the morning to train (yes, I am a sook) and working makes it harder to spend more time at the gym. Although, I do work at the gym, but you know what I mean LOL. The good thing about it all is that I’ve managed to lose 2.3kg since seeing my dietitian. It is just amazing how much difference it has made by changing a few things around (and of course busting your guts at the gym).  I actually feel slimmer (not sure if that makes sense to anyone, but I don’t feel as bloated as I was). Anyway, I am hoping I keep going well with it.  I’ve still got 4 weeks left until I go back to see her.

Cardio is back baby

Barbara on May 6th, 2008

Oh how I have missed it so much LOL. I stopped doing any cardio work back in January when my trainer wanted me to focus on building more muscle. Well I didn’t like it very much as I was gaining body fat again. Don’t get me wrong, I was building muscle, but just didn’t like the “bigger” feeling IYKWIM. Anyway, he isn’t around anymore so cardio is back baby - ner ner ner ner ner LMAO. For the past week I have been heading down to gym at 5.45am and doing a 6km run (and loving it). Cycle class is on every Wednesday night as well. I go back to the gym to do my weights at 9am (after I have dropped the kids off at school). Although next week my hours are changing at work so I won’t be able to train until after 12noon. I have got a split 2 day program with full upper body one day and legs/abs the next day. Will post them up later. So far so good. I had to change my appointment too with my dietitian as I won’t be able to make my early appointment next week. So I won’t be seeing her until 4 June now. My diet has been clean though and there has already been a change in the last week so fingers crossed it is all good from here on.

Forget the Challenge

Barbara on April 29th, 2008

I am so over it - How bloody frustrating! I suppose I have had a crappy month which hasn’t helped with my training, but no results means something has to change. I re-wrote my program on Friday night while I was at work. I sat at the gym looking around at all the equipment and decided enough was enough. Mon, Wed & Fri are now cardio days as I really need to shift this body fat, Tues & Thurs are weights - heavy, heavy, hard weights (6-8 reps) and to complete muscle fatigue. I did cardio yesterday and was pleased with my workout. Today was weights - I managed to get a few pb’s which I was happy with - but I better be sore tomorrow or I’ll be hitting it harder next time. I am not in the mood lately for anything other than hard strong workouts. Only two weeks to go until I see my dietitian - wish that could come around faster. Just need to keep focussed!

Back into it

Barbara on March 3rd, 2008

Not that I ever really left, I just haven’t blogged about it LOL. I trained well this morning although I am really starting to feel like a slug with no cardio sessions. So I decided that I am going to change my program to include cycle class. I just can’t go without it any more. I want to do a 3 day split and have written up a program that I am going to try for the next few weeks. My weights have increased (which is fantastic as I am getting stronger) and I have put on some muscle/weight but I really need an outlet where I can go just nuts. Cycle class will let me do this LMAO. Those who know me will understand what I mean LOL. I have to work this afternoon/tonight so will finish my program while I am there and will post it up tomorrow :)

Work

Barbara on March 1st, 2008

I thought I’d do a quick blog on what my last day at work was like -let me just start by saying it was very interesting. It amazes me how many people come through the gym with so many different goals and aspirations. I did a few assessments on some ladies who had just joined. I asked one of them what did she want to achieve from coming to the gym and she told me she wanted to look like me. Although it was an awesome compliement, I managed to turn it around so that she was focussing on herself and she explained that she wanted to lose weight and tone up so she could look great. I wrote her a program and hopefully, if she is dedicated enough, next month we will see come great changes. I walked around the gym just casually watching everyone when I came across some young guys who obviously had never trained before and just had no idea. Although their friend was trying to show them what to do - he looked at me almost pleading with his eyes that I show them as well. I was more than happy to show them - but as soon as I walked away, they were doing it all wrong again. What can you do other than explain and show them?? Something I will learn about as I go along I suppose. There were a few big guys that came in and just took charge of the whole gym. You get the impression that they “are serious, are there for a reason, don’t talk to them just make way” LOL. It was good that a few of them came up and introduced themselves. There was one guy that came in and took his time on everything, made sure his towel was in the right spot everytime before he sat down or did what he had to do (all this with his sunglasses still on his head LOL), and then a lady came in on a mission - I swear, she was in and out in less than 15 minutes! I did a few new program starts, spotted for a few people, gave advice to others and had a good laugh with the rest. Overall, it was a really good 5 hours of work :)

Well what’s happening?

Barbara on February 29th, 2008

I can hear you all asking LOL - Well ………….. Everything at the moment!! I got offered a job at the gym where I train and of course I accepted so in between training I have been working! It is awesome - I am really enjoying it. Helping others train and getting to know so many people in the gym is great fun. I start my PT course next month and cannot wait to get stuck into the books and get my certificate :). My training has been great as well - I won’t give you a day to day run down on what it has been like but everyday I am training like there is no tomorrow - I have changed my reps from 12-15 to 6-8 and really stacked the weights up - The difference in strength is amazing and although I have stopped losing body fat, I am gaining more muscle (which is ultimately the goal I wanted). Once I get enough muscle on me, I’ll get stuck back into the cardio and drop the last few % in body fat as I am still hoping to compete in October - It will probably be in figure rather than physique, but that’s okay - I have years ahead of me still :). Hopefully I will get my roster this weekend which will allow me to better organise myself and get blogging daily again. I still need to catch up on all the blogs I’ve been visiting too - I miss knowing what everyone else has been up to. Happy training :)

What a month!

Barbara on February 20th, 2008

I’m still here - we recently moved house and because of this I have been without the internet for the last month! I’m so glad I had been going to gym twice a day as it has helped me from going completely insane LOL. I have kept up with all my training (have not missed one session) which I am happy with but haven’t been able to blog my sessions at the gym which is unfortunate. I have had a few workouts with my trainer over the last month which have been awesome. It is amazing how much further you can push yourself when someone is there urging you on :) I really miss my cardio sessions though but fully understand that I can only do one thing at a time and by doing cardio, it will hinder my muscle growth. They have grown too - was pleasantly suprised at my last assessment - I have put on muscle and kept my body fat down. I started a new program on Monday which I will put up shortly - but this one came with a twist as I had to half create the program myself (all part of the learning process) - All three sessions have been great, but I will blog about them seperately. I am looking forward to getting back into my blogging routine again though :)

Day 53 - I can walk like a penguin

Barbara on January 24th, 2008

Well we all knew that was going to happen! After walking around the house all morning like a penguin, I braved the wind and set off to gym. Of course, as soon as I got there I was hoping all my pain would mysteriously vanish and I would be able to walk in like nothing was wrong - yeah right LOL - I kept walking like a penguin LMAO. I got upstairs (still think they need an elevator) and started working on my shoulders. I actually enjoyed my workout today (not that I don’t ever enjoy it LOL) but have to admit, I didn’t like it when I had to bend down to pick up a weight LOL. I did a few exercises I have never done before, which were interesting, and a few that I haven’t done for years, so the whole weights session great. I went back later (yes, still stiff) and got through my tricep session easily. Although, I did some Tricep Presses which felt weird to do, but they certainly got them burning! I have got a one-on-one tomorrow morning with my trainer - should be fun :)

Day 52 - Who’s got wobbly legs?

Barbara on January 23rd, 2008

Me!! LMAO - After my leg workout today I did :) To be a fly on the wall watching me trying to go down the stairs would have been hilarious LOL. You know what it’s like, you try to bend your knee and your whole leg buckles. I even told the gym they needed to get an elevator! Obviously my leg session was good and I know I’ll be sore tomorrow - but as always, it’s worth it - no pain, no gain :D Both gym sessions today were legs and a few back exercises at the end. I’m glad they get a week to recover - I’ll probably need it :)

Day 51 - Working out weights

Barbara on January 22nd, 2008

I think that is probably one of the hardest things I do at gym LOL - trying to work out the correct weight to use and getting it right. It can be frustrating at times but I eventually work it out. I had a few new exercises to do today so had to work out what weight to use. My guesses were pretty good and I managed to get through my morning program within time. I enjoyed the feel of the v bar pulldowns - that was probably my favourite of the morning (alongside the seated calf raise - they are awesome LOL). I went back in the afternoon to do my biceps and spent a good 35 minutes working them. Finished up with a few different ab exercises (because they don’t already hurt enough when I cough, sneeze or laugh LOL). I am enjoying the new program though - legs tomorrow (thank goodness, my upper body is suffering a bit and will welcome the rest LOL)
