How old is too old?

Barbara on December 16th, 2007

How old is too old? My belief is age has no barrier if you want to achieve or succeed in/with something. When I first started to go back to gym I stopped drinking – mostly because of the calories and I’d rather not have the additional calories to have to burn off. Well, I bumped into a friend who said we should catch up for a drink. When I told him I had stopped and for what reason – he couldn’t believe what I was doing and said I was too old to go back into bodybuilding. Now, other than his comment making me more determined to “show” him what I could do, I couldn’t believe that anyone could think that way. If you want to do something and are capable of doing it, regardless of your age, then you should do it. Get out there and enjoy yourself, don’t listen to anyone (other than your doctor of course LOL). I have seen so many people who are a lot older than me out running, riding bikes, swimming, doing pilates (yes, better then me LOL), in cycle class and even working out at the gym. Most of them put me to shame – it’s fantastic and they are really inspirational. There is even a show on Foxtel called Body Building Pensioners and it is amazing what they can do. They get a huge applause from me for getting out there and doing something they love. So if you have always thought of getting out there and doing something you have always wanted to do/try – I say go for it! What have you got to lose? Good luck :)

  1. Hi there…I was visiting my MyBlogLog and saw that you had recently visited my blog. Thanks a bunch! This is my first visit to your blog. I like it.

You’re never too old to do anything. Hell, if I had that attitude, I’d still be the “Fatty McFatterson” I once was. Even though I’m 36, I’d still like to look good enough to compete. Next is getting over my self-conscious feelings.

Good luck getting back into bodybuilding…you can do it! ;)

  2. I like your attitude, wish more of us ‘older’ gals would take more of an interest in zestful living!

  4. My husband is 58 years old and has been a weightlifter since he was 14 years old. He isn’t currently lifting because of a health problem and work schedule but he will never completely stop lifting weights. He walks in our neighborhood 4-5 times a week to keep in shape. You are only as old as you believe you are. For me, the older I get, the further away old gets.

  5. Absolutely!! I love your way of thinking :)
