Day 34 - More Cardio
You can never do too much cardio can you LOL. I decided that I would do another day of cardio in the gym before we head off on our two week holiday. I can’t describe the satsifaction I get of doing a really good workout other than it makes you want to go back and do more LOL. I suppose only I will ever understand that - I know my family all look at me with their heads to the side. I ended up running 12.5kms today (6.5 in the morning and the other 6km when I went back later in the day). It was well worth it and I feel good for doing it. It’s been raining quite heavily where we are so I am really hoping the weather on our holiday is clear so I can go for my morning jog. Keep your fingers crossed for me ![]()

Day 33 - Bring it on
Today was my cardio day and it started off well with a 6km run at the gym. I seem to have found my pace - all I need to do now is get some decent music that I can run to. I am still trying to work out what bpm tunes I need to get. I am thinking somewhere between 140-150 will be best. Once I work that out, I’ll be able to get a disc and upload something onto the shuffle. It gets painful having to continually press the next button while I’m running. Cycle class was awesome (as usual) - Our instructor asked if anyone needed a rest because it got quite hot in the cycle room (again) - I say “No way - Bring it on!!” If only the classes went for longer - they are just so much fun.
Holiday Program
Yes I know they are usually for kids, but mine is a little different LOL.
This is my holiday program (which I’ll be doing over the next two weeks) with free weights and a lovely running track around the local lake
Every Second Day
- 15-20 min jog (yes, just a jog - I am on holiday remember LOL)
- B/B Squat - 5 x 15
- Prone Ab Hold - 5 x 30sec
- Bent Over Row - 5 x 10
- Push Ups - 5 x 10
- Walking Lunges - 4 x 20
- B/B Military Press - 4 x 15
- Dips (feet up) - 3 x 20 (yeah - feet up, he must have seen me doing them easily with my feet on the floor - should be fun LOL)
- B/B Curls - 3 x 20
Every other day
- 15-20 minute jog
- Abs, Abs, Abs & more Abs LOL
Not sure what ab exercises to do yet but will probably do crunches, reverse knees, twists and leg raises - that will get them burning ![]()
Early Assessment
I had my “early” assessment today so that I could get a program to take on holiday with me. My last assessment was only 2 & 1/2 weeks ago so this one wasn’t really a “proper” one although my trainer still weighed and measured me. I am pleased to say that all up I have lost 22.5cms (from the waist, hips, legs & chest), I have dropped 4% bodyfat and only 3.8 kilo which is awesome for the small amount of time I have been training. I’ll be taking my holiday program with me (of course) along with my weights so I can train while we are away. My trainer said that when I get back, I can continue my bulk up programs for another two weeks before he wants to change everything (diet, weights, cardio sessions etc). Sounds like that will be fun
and I am looking forward to the challenge ![]()
Day 32 - I Trained Hard
I really trained hard this morning. It was the last day of my Bulk Up - Program 2 workout and I put as much effort into it as I could. Not sure what anyone else thought but the look of determination on my face (that I noticed in the mirror) almost scared me LOL. I so want all this hard work to pay off - I know I am getting there (and yes, I am very impatient) but it does get harder (not easier) to reach that goal. I added a bit more cardio again and jumped on the bike for 10 minutes prior to my run. I upped the anti on the treadmill and ran as fast as I could for the last song on the shuffle. It felt like I could have run out the window LOL. It was good to train hard today - I always feel great afterward ![]()
Day 31 - What a Great Workout
My workout today was fantastic. My legs didn’t pull or strain under any of the pressure I put them under and they felt really good when I left the gym. I knew it wouldn’t take long before they got used to being trained again. That is what usually happens when I am about to change my program LOL. It was the last day of my Bulk Up - Program 1 workout so I made sure I put as much effort into it as I could. My cardio session was really good as well. I did 10 minutes on the cross trainer, 10 minutes on the stepper and finished it off with my 5km run. One more day of training until my next assessment. Can’t wait ![]()
Day 30 - So When Are You Going to Compete?
Excuse me? Um …….. when I’m good enough! My trainer asked me today when did I want to start competing. I think I am at least 6-12 months off that. It is way to early for me to even think about competing. Don’t get me wrong, it is definitely one of my goals and I would love to strut my stuff up on stage but right now all I can imagine is how embarrassing it would be LOL. I am way too shy to do it but if I get confident enough with the progress I am making at gym, then you never know what will happen. I didn’t train today - as much as I wanted to get down to the gym for cycle class (yes, I nearly cried), we really needed to get some family things done before Christmas and I didn’t have time to get there. An extra days rest never hurt anyone did it? Oh, I hope not ![]()
How old is too old?
How old is too old? My belief is age has no barrier if you want to achieve or succeed in/with something. When I first started to go back to gym I stopped drinking – mostly because of the calories and I’d rather not have the additional calories to have to burn off. Well, I bumped into a friend who said we should catch up for a drink. When I told him I had stopped and for what reason – he couldn’t believe what I was doing and said I was too old to go back into bodybuilding. Now, other than his comment making me more determined to “show” him what I could do, I couldn’t believe that anyone could think that way. If you want to do something and are capable of doing it, regardless of your age, then you should do it. Get out there and enjoy yourself, don’t listen to anyone (other than your doctor of course LOL). I have seen so many people who are a lot older than me out running, riding bikes, swimming, doing pilates (yes, better then me LOL), in cycle class and even working out at the gym. Most of them put me to shame – it’s fantastic and they are really inspirational. There is even a show on Foxtel called Body Building Pensioners and it is amazing what they can do. They get a huge applause from me for getting out there and doing something they love. So if you have always thought of getting out there and doing something you have always wanted to do/try – I say go for it! What have you got to lose? Good luck ![]()
Day 29 - But it looks so easy
Have you ever watched something and thought “Pfft, no problem, I can do that” - Yeah? Well if you have thought that while watching pilates, think again LOL. I looked around tonight at the other people doing pilates and some of them seem to be breezing through it all like it was nothing. Then I look at myself in the mirror huffing, puffing, grunting and turning purple. It’s so hard it’s funny. I get a good giggle out of it and lose my train of thought but it just looks so easy. I must admit, it was a tad easier than last week but it really gets the muscles burning. My weights workout in the morning went well - I increased the weights on my deadlifts (not by much) but enough to make me work a little harder. Rest day tomorrow - am looking forward to that LOL.
Day 28 - Feeling hot hot hot
Got you singing haven’t I?
Not sure what was wrong with the air-conditioning at gym today but it was hot in there. Probably all the renovations they are doing - I hope they get it all sorted soon, especially as the weather is getting hotter. I worked hard this morning, especially on my legs, probably too hard really as I felt them pull a bit when doing my leg press. But it’s all good, they are starting to take shape so something is working
My cardio session was long but that was because I decided to walk the 5kms instead. I don’t want to over-do it LOL. Needed to book in for another assessment while I was there as we are going away over Christmas and I’ll need a new program to take with me. So that’s organised for Wednesday next week. It will be interesting to see what my trainer comes up with this time ![]()
